Beauty | Drugstore Liquid Lipstick Haul & Mini Reviews

Liquid Lipstick Drugstore Highstreet Haul NYX Colour Pop PS... Sleek

Liquid lipsticks are - imo - one of the single greatest inventions for women. All of the makeup and none of the fuss of upkeep whilst we're busy working our nine-to-fives, juggling kids and cooking dinner all at once. Here's what I think of my latest additions to my *ahem* rather extensive collection:

P.S... Super Matte Liquid Lipstick in 04

A deep burgundy liquid lipstick with a matte finish. I bought this on a bit of a whim and, considering the price tag, wasn't surprised when I discovered it was prone to balling up/wear and tear throughout the day.

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquer in Dash

This colour is everything - somewhere between a burgundy and a rose - and the formula and wear-time is much better than the initial releases. It's not the most long-wearing liquid lipstick I own but it's certainly one of my favourites. Though, if scent is a bit of a deal breaker for you I'd stay well away as Dash smells like artificial fruity chews - a scent that does go away shortly after application.

Colour Pop Liquid Matte Lip in Lumiere 2

I'm not too sad I paid well over the odds for this over on eBay - the formula of the Colour Pop Ultra Mattes are second to none. Though the reformulated shade won't be for everyone with it's blue/gray undertones it's certainly brought me out of my lip comfort zone (read: reds). I apply this once and don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. It's that good.

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Beauty Mark

Great formula. Great wear. I don't have a bad word to say about this exquisite shade. Brown is my new favourite lip colour.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania

Whilst I love the NYX Lingerie line, I found this Soft Matte Lip Creme to be hella drying - heresy I know - so much so I had to remove it after a few hours of wear. Twice. Which is such a shame because it smells like cake and the colour screams vampish-gals which is right up my alley.

Sleek Matte Me in Old Hollywood

This pulls a lot deeper than the pillar-box red above. Think Marylin Monroe. It's a sort of middle-of-the-road kind of product in which the wear time is fair, but not all day, and the lipstick does crumble a little.

Let me know what liquid lipstick you've been trying out lately!

Beauty | New Palettes: BH Cosmetics // Carli Bybel & Black Arts // Freedom Black Arts Eyeshadow Palette

Makeup Beauty Freedom Black Arts Carli Bybel BH Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palette Neutral Shimmer Matte

I went palette hauling...

With its mix of mix of buttery, warm, cool, shimmer and matte shadows - this Freedom Makeup Black Arts Palette* (left) has stolen my heart - and not just because of that hella pretty red-toned shimmer shade. It's the kind of palette that you unwrap and stare at its beauty - and, in fact, I did. The packaging is sleek, function and modern with a tablet-esque twist that makes it effortlessly travel friendly. This is complemented by the wide range of versatile shades that can take you from a simpler every day eye to something rich and smoky. As a bit of a makeup addict who likes to pack in excess, I think this just may take the place of my top travel palette (currently the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette, in case you're curious).
The BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Palette (right) was a bit of an impulse buy - #sorrynotsorry. It was the highlighters that did it. I love the fact they have become such a makeup staple that they're now considered as essential as eyeshadow - and, they cater for most skintones. So, whilst I can only comfortable wear the lightest pink and honey-toned shades, the rich brown and gold will make killer shadows. Especially when paired with the rosy and warm hues in the rest of the palette. The enabling part: considering it was shipping from the states, the delivery from BH Cosmetics delivery arrived in around 10 days and I wasn't stung with custom charges.

What palettes have you been buying recently?

Revlon | Ultra HD Matte Lip Colour // Liquid Lipstick

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour Lipcolour Matte Mat Liquid Lipstick Shade Red Passion

Stop your Sephora haulin' - liquid lipsticks have finally hit the British high street! After seeing the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour (Passion) in a number of blogger mail hauls shortly before its release, I lived for this liquid lipstick. It was all I talked about in #bbloggers chats and I checked the Boots website literally almost daily waiting for it to appear.

This is because liquid lipsticks are my kryptonite. If formulated correctly they look flawless on the lips, are incredibly low maintenance and last ~almost~ an entire day. So how did this match up to my extensive collection obsession?

PROS

The packaging is kick ass. Frosted - ooh, metallic - yes!
No balling up, which makes for comfortable wear and easy re-application.
Lasts around 6 or so hours with snacks, beverages etc.

CONS

One of the qualities I look for in a liquid lipstick is it's ability to be transfer proof - I drink a whole lotta coffee and don't have patience to be discretely wiping my smacker marks from the rim every two minutes. But, instead of drying down to a matte or even creamy formula, the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour (Passion) leaves you with a glossy sheen that stains your lips. So, whilst my afternoons are all about the matte, my mornings consist of lipstick kisses - everywhere.

If you're not big into strongly scented products, you should probably just leave this in your basket. I actually don't think I've smelt a stronger lipstick - think buttercream icing over red velvet cake smothered in Starburst. On the bright side, it's not exactly unpleasant and does disappear shortly after application so, personally, was not that much of an issue.

As a new release, the colour selection covers a capsule lip wardrobe - but there's not much room to be adventurous. Where are my browns people?!

THE VERDICT

Ultimately, the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour (Passion) is a pleasant venture into the world of liquid lipsticks from one of the mainstream high street brands and I'd definitely look into purchasing more of the range.
