Skincare | Kiehl’s Festival Skincare Survival Kit

With my last ever pieces of coursework in and just a dissertation and a few exams to go, I have to say I am looking forward to the summer of carefree plans and enjoying a well-deserved break/panicking about the impending doom of a full time job/attempting not to spend the last of the student loan.

Thankfully, my skincare is one less thing I have to worry about with this Kiehl’s Festival Skincare Survival Kit* and quirky tote designed by Zara Martin is the perfect no fuss companion to any festival you may be trekking to this year. Or, if you’re like me and prefer the quieter life – glamping set up and medieval feast. Oh yes, that’s happening. The kit comes with all the skincare staples that are light weight, effortless and designed to perk up your skin amongst all that mud and rain - it is the UK. Everything’s in miniature and comes in its own little pouch that’s easy to reserve for your travels rather than hurriedly run around attempting to pack last minute.

Though there isn’t much need for the sunscreen just yet (read: aforementioned UK), I have been enjoying the use of the kit with my everyday makeup instead of the glittery extremes and multi-coloured war paint you see plastered across the crowd at Glastonbury each year. I must say the Micro Blur Skin Perfector – think Benefit Porefessional in Colour and L’oreal Mattifying Primer in consistency – has to be my favourite as it lies somewhere between a silicone based primer and a tinted moisturiser that evens the texture of your skin. Add a few drops of concealer and you have the perfect effortless base.

The Skincare Rescuer spritzer also rates pretty highly in my books as it’s both nifty and swift and promises will protect my skin from external stressors which, at a festival means pretty much anything! The Ultra facial Cleanser also gets a thumbs up from me for its creamy lather that removes every trace of makeup without drying out the face. In fact, as a self-confessed body lotion/hand cream/moisturiser addict, the only thing I feel that is lacking in this kit is the pocket-sized Crème de Corps moisturiser that may be used on both the body and face that leaves skin leaving it nourished without feeling heavy. But I suppose including a deluxe sample size SPF is a little more important, if it’s sunny this year, we hope…

MaxFactor | Creme Puff Blush in Lovely Pink [Dupes]

MaxFactor Creme Puff Blush in Lovely Pink Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Blush Dupes Hourglass Ambient Lighting Swatch
MaxFactor Creme Puff Blush in Lovely Pink Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Blush Dupes Hourglass Ambient Lighting Swatch 1

These newly released MaxFactor Creme Puff Blushes have some serious beauty hype surrounding them at the minute for a possible affordable alternate for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. And, with the same veins of shimmery colour running through the pan they certainly have the potential.

Although, just after you scratch the surface of this Lovely Pink, after those first few uses those beautiful iridescent veins all but disappear leaving a sheer peach finish with some extreme sparkle and many tiny bits of glitter. The positives are, it makes a gorgeous blush/highlight colour combo and due to it's sheerness can be used to set creme blush without taking too much away from the original colour. But because of this, it's not something I would reach for everyday - this coming from a lover of the likes of Sleek's Rose Gold - and is left firmly on that romantique, date-night shelf.

The good news is, if you're still lusting over something similar that packs a little more pigment try the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Blushes (All I Think About Is You, Loved Me The Best) that are incredibly pigmented and boast a certain opalescent sheen as opposed to the all out shimmer of the MaxFactor Creme Puff Blushes - and they pack in just a little more product for just a third of the price tag.

Rimmel | Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara

Rimmel's Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara with a grow lash complex and fibres goes against everything in a mascara I love, as, if you've read any of my previous mascara posts, you'll know I simply cannot wear anything that isn't waterproof as it ends up down my face, and have a preference for volumising formulas over lengthening formulas. Consequently, I just can't figure out why this just works. Magic perhaps?

Vlogs | Hull Fashion Week

Day 1:

Day 2:

If you've been following me on my social media, you'll know I attended the last couple of days of Hull Fashion Week, including the Catwalk Finale over the weekend. It was such a blast catching up the rest of the Hull Bloggers and Mr LDW himself, who is a hoot on twitter but I rarely ever get to see.

The whole thing really showcased what Hull has to offer with a huge focus on the re-vamping, re-working and re-wearing of vintage fashion. And had such a feel of bringing the trends from the catwalk and into your wardrobe and hair. Mine was styled on stage with the lovely H.air Blow Dry Salon in Hull, Keeley Donovan and a little help from myself. So make sure to keep your eyes peeled for a that little tutorial in the future and obviously, the pictures from the catwalk.

Skincare | Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil SKincare Grinif Raw Rawganic

Facial oils in general have become a new love of mine, but Jojoba Oil* has become a complete skincare staple as it's great for locking in moisture and improving the texture of the skin overnight. I use three drops: one for each side of my face and another for the forehead and massage them well into the skin just before bedtime before topping with my favourite night cream - Manuka Doctor's Rejuvenating Night Cream*, more on this another time - and heading to bed for some well deserved beauty sleep.

With this in my routine, my skin feels a lot softer, plumper and less dehydrated and my base makeup is easier to apply and appears more radiant later in the day when it has usually slipped or settles into my pores.

In this particular blend of which 98% is Jojoba Oil, 1% Vitamin E and 1% Lavender Essential Oil. The Lavendar oil works great at relaxing and de-stressing me before bed and as an antioxidant, the Vitamin E, a favourite in the skincare world, works to protect your skin from harmful free radicals such as pollution and fights the signs of premature aging and can be used to reduce acne scarring.

My skin is at that awkward stage now where I should be emerging from the terrible teen breakouts and into a nourising anti aging regime - your skin starts aging from the age of twenty, you know! - but I often swap in a couple of salicylic acid based creams to fight the inevitable breakouts and it's nice to have a facial oil to balance everything out.

Beauty Tip | Contouring for Pale Skin

Here's a quick contouring hack for all of you pale people out there who just can't find a bronzer to match their complexion or are looking to avoid those orange undertones. For a cool contour shade, Boot's Natural Collection has the perfect shadow for the job in Milk Chocolate. Atop your base, dust into the hollows of your cheeks and down the sizes of your nose for a chiseled finish. I've even been skipping the blush and just sticking with this base, brows and contour for the perfect no-makeup makeup.

And, if you're running short of time Milk Chocolate makes the perfect transition eyeshadow colour for the crease, pair with a smidge of cream eyeshadow -I recommend Maybelline's Colour Tattoo On and On Bronze - and you're ready to go!

What beauty hacks do you use in your makeup routine?

Makeup Revolution | Vivid Baked Bronzer: Rock On World

Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Bronzer Rock on World Swatch Golden Bronze Shimmer Shimmery Highlight Gold Dust MAC Dupe (2)
Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Bronzer Rock on World Swatch Golden Bronze Shimmer Shimmery Highlight Gold Dust MAC Dupe (3)

You know that feeling when something so incredibly beautiful catches your eye and you just have to have it? That was the case when my eyes found the flawlessly iridescent Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Bronzer in the shade Rock On World, no matter that I can only pull it off for just shy of two months a year, that is, if I'm lucky enough to catch some sun...

As a rumored dupe for MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Gold Dust, the pan is a whirl of a rich bronze, vibrant gold and dull copper that oozes vibrance and shimmer. It's the ultimate summery bronzer and my most recent purchase from the line after I fell besotted with Ready to Go and Golden Days (comparable to MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle) for those with a fairer complexion.

On pale ol' me this leaves an incredibly sheer, bronzed and shimmery finish, once blended . That I can see working wonders dusted atop my cheekbones in the summer but, until then, makes a great eyeshadow topper to brighten my signature burnt red eye I seem to be gravitating towards of late.

Beauty | New Drugstore Makeup Haul & Review

New Drugstore Makeup Haul Collection Rimmel L'oreal Mia Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Lipstick Maybelline Colour Tattoo Leather Eyes Uncovered Matte High Coverage

I was so good for so long until my recent drugstore splurge, but there seems to be a lot of new releases cropping up on the shelves of Boots lately. A few Youtube TV Playlists later and, well, here we are...

L'Oreal Infallible 24H Mattifying Foundation
As the new foundation on the block, I had to get my hands on this as every beauty blogger and their cat is currently testing it out. First the coverage is amazing with a liquid to almost powdery finish, I've found myself reaching for my concealer and my powder a lot, lot less. But it's definitely not something for my dry skin days as it can (and will) pick up every flaw. Moisturise well and always use a primer!

Lush | Easter

First off, if you're reading this HAPPY EASTER if you so choose to celebrate it. I personally don't, I'm just relishing in the thought of all of the chocolate milkshake recipes I can make from those eggs! Now, back to business: over a month ago, the lovely people at Lush Hull invited myself and a select few other bloggers to their very first event for an exclusive preview of some of their Easter products, just a day before they were due to launch in stores. It all felt incredibly top secret.

Style Steal | Tortoiseshell Sunglasses

At the first glimmer of sunshine, I feel it's only British to crack out the sunglasses and these tortoiseshell finish sunnies from Primark are bang on trend with everything from Prada to Topshop reviving this nineties must-have. Which, by the way I detested during my youth. Though, there is a cracking family photo with me looking rather smug after giving my Dad and my brother chicken pocks wearing a very similar pair!

Point being, I am a sunglasses hoarder, I don't invest, I collect because I know I'm just going to throw them in my handbag or take them to the beach and I don't want them feeling precious. So, on the day of the solar eclipse whilst I was hastily running from shop to shop, I needed just a teeny tiny push before I grabbed this beautiful matte tortoiseshell pair with gold hardware before dashing outside to catch the event.

Life | Wake Up Tomorrow & Do It All Again

Three years of study and really, it all comes down to this. I have three weeks to finish writing 15,000 words comprising an essay, a book review and the dreaded dissertation. Where did the time go?

It's not that I still feel like a fresher, completely unsure and totally overwhelmed, I don't. I can honestly say I'm a completely different person than the day I stepped out of the pick up and down the steps to my halls. For starters I'm a thousand times more sure of myself, I have a better much better fashion sense, a seriously extended makeup collection and I'm no longer the quietest person I know, I have learnt to speak up.

But somewhere in between I blinked and now I'm somehow managing all this time-engulfing stuff that I hadn't had time to actually sit down and consider until I didn't have to anymore. I'm a psychology undergraduate. I'm a blogger and a social media freelancer. I'm a NUS delegate for my university, where I also have a job.

My first year self could not comprehend the hours in the day that all of this work takes but then again, she was just a busy making friends and fitting in. Ultimately, it's not so much about the hours that it takes but the hours that you create to fit it all in.  What I'm trying to say to all you third year students out there, those of you that are struggling with your A-levels or can't find enough hours in the week to cook a proper meal...

You have as much free time as you create, don't beat yourself up about what you can't do, congratulate yourself on what you've already achieved by waking up and going about your super-human day. And wake up again tomorrow and do it all again.

FOTD | Quick, Warm & Grungy Eye

FOTD eyeshadow tutorial bronze bronzer neutral gold warm eye
FOTD eyeshadow tutorial bronze bronzer neutral gold warm eye

This is such a quick and easy look that can be created using a multitude of products and looks better on the messier side. It's perfect for giving your old bronzers a new lease of life and even better for using whilst travelling and product space is limited.

For this grungy, warm-neutral eye I patted Maybelline's Colour Tattoo in Eternal Gold across the lid and blended using a terracotta toned bronzer - Rimmel's Sunshine Maxi Bronzer in Warm Up! now discontinued but any will do - into the crease and underneath the eye atop a paint pot primer for maximum staying power.

To finish, I added a little dimension by smudging a deeper bronze, Undiscovered from the Lorac Unzipped Palette (very similar to Makeup Revolution's Mono Eyeshadow in So Good to Me), in the outer 'v' of the eye and topped with a coat of my new favourite mascara, Rimmel's Lash Accelerator Mascara.

Lips: Saint by Topshop and please excuse the air-drying hair!
