MAC | Lipstick: Shy Girl

After debating whether to include this in my recent The Best Nude Lip post, I started wondering where my love with this lipstick had faltered and why - it's MAC for crying out loud! I bought it back in October after craving a dewy nude finish - but the attraction's just not there anymore. At first I was obsessed, but now? I find that, like Rebel, MAC's Shy Girl just sits in my train case gathering dust.

Life | Simple Steps to Positive Thinking

During exam period I noticed myself become less of my usual bubbly self and more a giant black hole of pressure, negativity and fun sucking, so I got to thinking of ways to force myself to be more upbeat and positive in the things I could change  - everything else - than the things I just  had to live with - exam stress, degree stress, third year stress - you get the picture.

NYX | Lip Liner in Currant

After a swift Pinterest MAC dupe education (Nightmoth for those who are wondering) - I was crazily excited to try NYX's Currant for those dark A/W vampy or those chic MUA-Instagrammer ombred lips. It arrived and it was perfect. So perfect in fact, that I decided it would accompany me on an impromptu night out and promptly ended up with it all over the lip of my bottle - I'm a classy, classy lady - and subsequently all over my face multiple times.

Makeup Revolution | Ultra Aqua Brow Tint

I'm not going to lie, my first reaction to this product was something along the lines of: What the heck is that? What do you use it for? Oh, brows. Okay, well I don't think I'll be using that...it looks rather messy! May I just take this little opportunity to eat my words. This is one amazing brow product* that every girl needs.

Liquid Lipsticks | The Matte Edit

During my bi-annual blogging hiatus due to the wonderful word of education, I fell in love with the matte lip - actually, allow me to rephrase: I fell in love with the budget matte lip. As it's no secret how much I covet the cult Lime Crime Velvetines - just check my Instagram likes! - but for the price tag I'm a little more than reluctant to splash out - even if it may fantastic and can last literally all day long... Okay, so I'll admit, I caved a little with these drug store dupes that satisfy my craving without breaking the bank. But the real question is which is the best for your buck?

Blog | New Design + Ad Space Giveaway

As some of you may well have noticed - things round here have change a lot  over the past week with my new blog design. As much as I loved and treasured the old one, it was time for a bit of a revamp which included some serious brushing up on code, weeks of editing and then finally collapsing and editing the handy Simple template by Blogger with all my shiny new additions. In my opinion I didn't do have a bad job in an afternoon (but that might just be my sleep-deprived and coffee-induced revision brand talking!).

Speaking of... this month brings me to my penultimate set of exams in formal educating which is as terrifying a thought as it is a relieving one and consequently, I can't promise I'll be around very much this month so I wanted to give three of you a chance to win your very own ad space over there in my nicely revamped sidebar for February.

I'll be picking the winners in the last few days of the month in prep for February so please make sure you leave some way for me to get in touch!

University | Lists

This is one of those posts that I write incredibly late at night because:

1. I am trying to avoid sleep - which will only confirm that today - 1am - is, in fact, today and I have an exam tomorrow.
2. I'm still waiting for my nails to dry.
3. Which is all a very bad idea because: I really can't afford to be tired right now, I do not have enough space in my bag for my coffee machine, I am a terribly anxious nails biter when it comes to exams and I will have horribly chipped polish by tomorrow with nothing to replace it (note: pack polish).

In eight hours or so I will be in a car hurtling up some motorway or another, making my way back to university for the grand total of less than 36 or so hours to sit 1/4 of my final exams for a degree course I don't really need (read: technically) and don't really want to continue. Here's why:

1. My career path has changed - for the better.
2. I adore psychology but repeatedly learning certain topics is tedious.
3. I am a creative individual who really should have picked a degree course accordingly and not be fooled into thinking I am in any way overly academic by my secondary school.
4. Forensic psychology scares me - there are some terrible people out there in the world.
5. I want a house of my own, a space I can decorate and sit in in peace and have control of the heating - all those kinds of grown up things.
6. I need grown up job that I can leave at the end of the day and really leave it, no work, no heaps of textbooks or colour coded post its or late nights spent dreading the looming deadlines.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, wish me luck. I think.

And now I have the hiccups.

BD Trade Secrets | Express Eyes Collection: Cafe Latte

Recently my local Tesco had a major re-haul of the beauty isle and, naturally, I went for a cheeky play with some of the products in their fancy new back lit cases, instead of finishing the food shop... The new Barbara Daly section was completely revamped and featured every single swatch of every single product - I'm sure you'll agree this is somewhat of a small miracle - so I could sweep and blend until my heart was content.

Being a sucker for any shimmer natural shadow, the Express Eye Range caught my eye so I lifted up as I lifted the protective plastic and dipped my finger in to some of the creamiest, butteriest shadow known to man. Dare I say that it rivals the likes of my Urban Decay? They were beautiful! And after some debate as to which to purchase I walked away with Cafe Latte, a bright, peach toned and satin gold that makes a great shade for applying all over the lid or just a dab in the centre to brighten and draw focus to the eye.

The only drawback was the lasting power on my oily lids which didn't manage a full day without a primer but I highly recommend pairing it with Urban Decay's Primer Potion in Sin* as the champagne tones compliment the shadow whilst ensuring it lasts all day.

Have you tried anything from the BD Trade Secrets range?

New Look | Playing with Textures: Grey Ribbed Knit Jumper

When it comes to choosing clothes during the winter months, I find myself sitting firmly in the real of plain and boring that is: a) monochrome and b) sweatshirts. Now, don't get me wrong - I am all for style but I refuse to sacrifice my warmth and cosy-ness for it and I can't be the only one.

Which is where my latest fashion friend of textured jumpers, blazers and the like comes in. I cannot tell you just how much of a life saver Topshop's Black Eyelash Jumper from A/W13 has been in my wardrobe, or my Oversized Black Longline Textured Blazer by George, or my three pairs shiny black disco-pant style leggings paired with pretty much anything (read: that covers my derriere).

Playing with textures is a great way for me to keep the easy, warm, monochrome style I love without compromising in style. And this is the newest addition to my collection - a happy accident of a wrong order - this Grey Ribbed Knit Jumper by New Look.

How do you wear your texture?

Blogging | The Hull Blogger Meet

During December I attended the second Hull Blogger Meet hosted at Fudge and organised by my blogger bestie Alex and my recent newspaper buddies Jenny and Jaye (it was nice to have my feet up for a change!). Here's how I got on...

The meet kicked off by a visit from some lovely Hull-based Arbonne reps who talked us though diet supplements, skin solutions and let us have a play with their makeup. Whilst the girls were lovely, I wasn't entirely sold on the products. Some of the skincare smelt really good and a few makeup bits were pretty but nothing particularly stood out to me - and their price tags on a student budget were more than a little scary! I was also offered the opportunity to become an Arbonne rep myself (read: similar to an Avon rep) but with my existing jobs and busy study schedule I thought it best to decline for now!

I was lucky enough to be seated on a table full of flatmates and friends so it was great to have a catch up - we're always so busy! Then came the food after a good old natter. As I've previously said, Afternoon Tea is my absolute favourite meal of the day and with tea, finger sandwiches, cake and scones all served on a quaint mismatched English tea set - Fudge spoiled us rotten. Not forgetting a cupcake for the soon-to-be birthday girl and organiser Alex.

We had the whole of the upstairs rented for our afternoon and it was decorated beautifully with bunting and presents - aka goody bags! - under the tree as well as a raffle and a clever little giveaway made out of envelopes on the wall. The girls had really done good!

After tea we had another chat from a Younique rep. I personally hadn't heard much about the brand but was repeatedly told by Hannah that their 3D  Fiber Lash Mascara was a holy-grail must have product in some blogger circles, it promised amazing things and seemed a little too good to be true. For information purposes, the product works in two steps - firstly by applying a mascara to act a bit like an adhesive and secondly a wand dipped in fibers to lengthen your lashes.

We were told that it would work just fine over normal mascara but by the time it made its way to our table it was a little dried out and I don't think anyone noticed much of a dramatic difference to our lashes - even the rep had to ask which eye had the mascara on!

Before the meet was over, we were talked through The Library of Fragrance's range, were spritzed with the likes of Gin and Tonic and Rain and encouraged to mix our own combination. After seeing these little guys on a few of the major blogs - I was more than excited to try them out and have since purchased my very own in a special summery scent and can't wait to collect more!

And of course, it wouldn't be a Hull Blogger meet without oodles of chip spice - a special little concoction right out of Hull that makes any late night takeaway at least seven times tastier. I don't know how I am going to cope without it when I move! Mail order perhaps?

Thank you to all for a wonderful day - it was nice to meet up with the regular Hull gang as well as meting a few new faces and Twitter-acquaintances for the first time. I can't wait to do it again soon!

Elf | Studio Blush: Gotta Glow

Elf Studio Blush Gotta Glow Highlighter
Elf Studio Blush Gotta Glow Highlighter
Elf Studio Blush Gotta Glow Highlighter Swatch

It's January and, as my last year as a student, it calls for many late nights hitting the books and many early mornings trawling through textbooks which is unforgiving on my zombie-like, coffee-craving appearance. And there's only so much peach toned concealer can cover - it combats the purple hues, I recommend Soap & Glory's Kick Ass Concealer - but for that extra boost I've been reaching for Elf's Studio Blush (let's face it, highlighter!) in Gotta Glow.

It's a brightening, if slightly chalky, powder flecked with gold shimmer and teeny tiny chunks of glitter. So if you're one for sheen rather than sparkle, this might be one to avoid! But because of it's white undertone it works wonders for highlighting the under eye area and instantly adds hours of sleep to your complexion.

It also makes a great highlighter for the cheekbones too! Or can be used with a light hand all over the face to add an illuminating finish.

Life | Cutting out Caffiene

Charley Lucy Tea Coffee Mug Caffeine Cut Out
Charley Lucy Tea Coffee Mug Caffeine Cut Out
If you've been following me on social media for any length of time or have happened to have bumped into me within the past year or so, you'll know that whenever I can I go through bouts of cutting out caffeine from my diet. This is an absolute killer as:

1) I am completely and utterly tea obsessed at heart.
2) I am a student and am therefore am required to be up at all hours.
3) I'm 99.9% sure I now suffer from fatigue ever since my stint of glandular fever.

Whilst I may feel like a zombie during the day, take frequent naps and can't really hack the late night parties - my body does in fact thank me for it by giving me endless hours of insomnia-free, uninterrupted, blissful sleep. That is, until I go home again and am reunited with the kettle - a mere room away - and I've noticed incredible changes in my sleep pattern as well as my quality and length of sleep. I'm struggling yet again to go caffeine free (once you've made it a day you'll make it a month, I keep telling myself) here's a list of my favourite alternatives to everyone's best brew:

Green Tea - packed full of antioxidants, great for the body and skin, makes you pee a lot.
Chia Tea - it tastes scrummy, can be made into a latte with milk and is completely caffeine free.
Fruit Tea - comes in an abundance of flavours. My favourite is Chamomile and Honey which is extremely calming and next on my to-try list is Lemon because it smells incredibly refreshing!

But never, never decaf. It tasted like damp cardboard.
