Beauty | Maybelline Fit Me Concealer // 10

The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer had it all: a creamy formula, full coverage and a natural finish that all beauty bloggers far and wide preached was the next best thing to Nars Creamy Concealer... So I find myself, once again asking, why don't I like it?

Maybelline has fallen for the all to familiar fatal flaw of the drugstore and that is the shade. Even at it's lightest (Light, 10) it's far too dark to cover blemishes for the english rose complexion. Which, sadly is soul-destroying if you've ever had the sweet satisfaction of swatching it - as it makes the perfect highlight shade for under the eyes - banishing bags and brightening in a sweep!

I know this is shaping up to be a somewhat negative review, but honestly Maybelline, I love your product, I do - just please release more shades!

What are your thoughts on the Fit Me Concealer? Have you tried it yet?

Beauty | I Heart Makeup Triple Baked Highlighter // Goddess of Love

When it came to purchasing I Heart Makeup's Goddess of Love Baked Highlighter, I was good. I was, in fact, so good it took months of my inner Charley telling me that "I had enough highlighters" and "It'll just be the same as all the rest" before I finally gave in and purchased it to push myself over the limit for free delivery on the Superdrug website - coincidentally at the same time as buying their Flawless Eyeshadow Palette. Doh. I really do need to get my collection all in one spot and then I'm doing a collection video, or three, might be more appropriate...

As you can tell from the swatch, it's a nicely pigmented gold-based highlighter that gives a healthy glow rather than all over shimmer. However - and I can't tell you how niggling this is - it smells very sharply of chemicals. Now, I'm not sure whether this is the glue or the packaging but it isn't the most pleasant smelling product I've ever had on my face - hello, they come in chocolate now! - and there does seem to be a small piece of fiber suck in the center of the product which is something I have heard another Youtuber complain of, with Makeup Revolution products but haven't yet experienced myself.

All in all it's a wonderful product for £4.99, and you do get a lot of product but I was still a little hesitant to part with my money at first, due to it's super cheap sister company Makeup Revolution with a slightly more expensive price tag.

What are your thoughts on the rise of the new budget beauty brands?

Beauty | New for A/W14 GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick // Twilight

This newly released A/W wonder Velvet Touch Lipstick in Twlight (171) by GOSH is definitively the best lipstick I've bought in a while - it's pigmented and moisturising, the formula is incredible and the shade is hands down the best purple the drugstore has to offer - fact. It may just give MAC a run for its money - and for half the price. In bright light, it's just out there enough to add a pop of colour for autumn but can give a vamp and rich sheen. I freaking love it.

Sidenote: Who else likes my little cushy voodo doll I won at the fair?

Beauty | Bad Habits

Recently I have been accumulating so really awful beauty habits which I know we all do. And I'm really trying to break, so I thought the first step would be share then all with you here, and hopefully get some encouragement!

1. Tugging at the corner of my eye when applying eyeliner.
This increases the likelihood of wrinkles tenfold, but I just can't see how else to do it! (EDIT: Try the Nanshy Precise Bent Eyeliner Brush - works wonders!)

2. Washing my brushes weekly.
There are multiple benefits of washing your brushes weekly - including easier and better looking makeup application and reduced risk and reduced build up of bacteria, which equals less spots. The benefits are quite literally endless - so why can't I and many other beauty bloggers seem to keep up with this?! So far I'm managing once every two weeks and that's only if I'm lucky!

3. Double cleansing my face EVERY night.
Picture this. It's the end of a long day and you've just got in from a long day. All you want to do is grab a quick bite to eat and fall straight into bed. Do you take the time to head for your trusty cleanser? No. You head for the nearest makeup wipe before your head hits the pillow. This however will only clean the makeup from your face, it'll do nothing in the way of unblocking and cleansing your pores. Double cleansing leaves you feeling free and fresh all night long and will improve your face in no time.

4. Opening my mouth when I put mascara on.
Every girl does it (and if you don't can you please teach me?). It really has no consequences - you just look a little bit silly!

5. Chucking out old makeup.
I'm terrible at this. I know mascaras have a shelf life of around about 3 months - but do I listen? No! I will use it until the product is gone. Really you should throw out old makeup after it's shelf life has run out or if it changes in colour or smell - this means the product could have gone off and leave you with a nasty little reaction in the process!

What are your worst beauty habits?

Beauty | The Drugstore Dior Dupe

A little while ago, Barry M released their Aquatics Collection which, owning enough nail polish for a lifetime, I'll admit I wasn't overly excited about except for this little guy in Treasure Chest. It's a stunning foil-gold topcoat that instantly revives a polish - I cannot tell you how many compliments I have gotten wearing this!

But it wasn't until this afternoon when  realised that it's pretty much an exact dupe for Dior's Diorific Golden Shock Gold Leaf Effect Topcoat which certainly sports some prettier packaging - but is all that extra money really worth it? It's a nail polish - it's practically meant to chip and be chopped and changed after a week!

Lipstick | The Autumn Edit

F R O M   R I G H T   T O   L E F T

Another perfect nude, Just a Fling is the perfect demi-matte shade to throw-in-your-bag everyday. It's the key for an effortless, city chic look.

The formula of these lipticks is absolutely amazing, Mayfair Lady glides onto the lips to produce a rich and glamours siren sheen - but it can be prone to slipping! So make sure to apply a liner first, blot and then reapply or pat with translucent powder for a sultry matte finish.

My fourth purchase of the line, Vintage Pink is the epitome of femininity and androgen with its perfect dusty, muted hue. That even  allows red heads like me to venture into the vast world of pink and avoid the dreaded clashing!

GOSH Velvet Touch Lipstick // Twilight
As one of the new releases and perfect daring shade for A/W, Twilight smacks of the coveted MAC Cyber - even smells like it too! It's the perfect vampy purple drugstore lipstick. Although the formula is a little more sheer than I would like it's feels incredibly moisturising on the lips and looks incredible when worn alone or atop a black or deep red liner.

Blogging | The Hull Blogger Tag!

Charley - We all know Hull is the greatest place on earth, but if you didn't live there, where would you live?
Hypothetically I would love to do a stint in the States, but at heart I'm a bit of a home girl. Put me some quiet Victorian flat or teeny tiny cottage somewhere with a roaring fire and a good book and that'll do me!

Joanna - On average how many makeup products do you use per day?
If we go with this morning I used BB cream, two concealers, powder, blush, highlighter, brow kit, lip liner, lip stick, three different eye shadows, setting spray, mascara, liner - so fifteen? Crikey, and the worst bit is I'd say that's a pretty average day for me. I really enjoy playing with lots of different products on a morning with a cuppa tea and my fluffy blanket..

Kate - If you were given a plane ticket and told you can go absolutely anywhere in the world. Where would you go and why?
On one hand I would love to go back to Venice, it's such a cultural experience and a truly beautiful place - plus the food is to die for! But on the other, I'd love to explore somewhere new - maybe a Contiki tour is on the cards yet...

Lucy - What independent shop do you most like to visit in Hull?
At the moment I really adore Poor Boy. They have this beautiful handcrafted jewellery made from silver forks and spoons and fashioned into bangles. I think it's such a quirky way of refashioning something old into something new. But over the summer it was definitely Magpie's Den with their flawless floral crowns that were perfect for the festival season. And next month? We'll see Hull has so many niche independent clothing brands.

Susan - What are the main differences between your makeup looks and choice of products in the summer and your looks in the winter?
For me, the biggest difference is in the colours I wear. I'm a vampy red girl at heart which really comes out during the autumn along with the bold brows and matte finish. In the summer I'm much more relaxed and will often skip the lippy altogether or opt for a light nude sheen, my makeup is much more relaxed, dewy and light.

Megan - Where do you think is the best place to take outfit photos in Hull?
It has to be Old Town doesn't it? I can't think of a better place! You've got cobbled streets and and oldy-worldy feel - plus you're never too far away from a good cafe to reward yourself with a nice cuppa tea.

Chloe - What makes Hull unique?
The friendliness of the people - I felt it from my first day here!

Chelsea - Most repurchased beauty item?
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - I have been hooked on the stuff since I was fourteen and have gone through many a tube since then! It's one of those product that truly deserves it's holy grail status in the beauty world in my eyes.

Alex - What’s your favorite thing to do in Hull?
You mean besides meeting up with you lovely lot?

Beauty | Favourites: High End vs. Budget

Today I decided to do something a little different, I often talk of my love for a product but rarely do a roundup of my favourites, like this one here. All of the products below have been featured in my blog one way or another, so just give them a click to see the original post - and might I just warn you, some of them go way back to posts I'd rather never revisit - but for you enjoyment...

You'll also know I'm a huge drugstore girl at heart, whilst I would think twice from trading my beloved Estee Lauder Double Wear down forever, I think there are a number of fantastical products at the drugstore that, for the price, can far outdo their high end counterparts. Afterall, it's only makeup, right?
